These pages of the Baughurst Society Website have been produced in the hope that it will encourage residents of the Parish and visitors to explore our beautiful countryside through the extensive network of footpaths and bridleways. There are many lovely trees, flowers, animals and birds in the area which contribute to the peace and tranquillity of the Parish. We appreciate the practical assistance given by Hampshire County Council’s Countryside staff in keeping the paths open, safe and signed.
Thanks are due to members of the Walks Working Group who have walked the walks, described detail, taken many photographs and repeatedly checked the scripts. In addition, you will soon find, along with the description of the walk, a gpx file in the GPS exchange format which you can load into mapping software to navigate the route. You may also find the OS Explorer maps No 144 Basingstoke.158 Newbury and 159 Reading useful.
We will be adding to the walks set during 2024 and 2025 so please pop back to look for additions. You can also help. If you follow one of our walks and notice a nice detail (“an instance of delight”) on your walk please send in photographs that we may use and a description of the item and where it is located. Or if a walk reminds you of a personal anecdote, please sent it in us. The email address to use is in the attached QR Code. Just point your device camera at it and an email will automatically be addressed and prepared for you. We will regularly update this walks section with contributions from the community. So come on, get walking!!
Please remember that some paths may be muddy, and stout shoes or boots are recommended at all times of the year. Some paths may have stiles to climb; however, many have been replaced with kissing gates. Please do not leave any litter, respect property and keep dogs under control. Always follow the Countryside Code, a copy is attached.
