The Society’s objectives are:
(i) To conserve and enhance the unique and essentially rural character of the civil parish of Baughurst with Wolverton, Hampshire, for the benefit and enjoyment of its present and future inhabitants.
(ii) To promote knowledge and pride in the parish’s history as well as awareness of current or potential developments likely to affect the character of the parish’s environment.
(iii) To make representations as the Executive Committee may consider proper to statutory authorities, elected representatives, incorporated or voluntary bodies, or private individuals in furtherance of the Baughurst Society’s objects or interests.
(iv) To enhance public amenities within the parish by such charitable endeavours as the Society may find practical.

The original Baughurst Society Constitution from 1997 was available only in hard copy. It was recast in June 2023 so that it could be more easily used. The original constitution is attached here for information.

The Baughurst Society requests that its members donate a small amount each year (currently £10.00) to fund the work of the Society. This is achieved by becoming an annual member through the web site. This will provide access to additional web site content, add your details to our regular mailing list to receive important information about the parish. The society embraces the work of Sustainable Baughurst, the Baughurst Repair Cafe and supports the activities of the Baughurst Neighbourhood Planning Group.

A meeting of the Baughurst Society was held on 13th September 2023 in order to elect a new Executive Committee of the Society. The minutes of the meeting were as follows:

Meeting Minutes:

  1. Introductions:
    Attendees introduced themselves, and apologies were noted.
  2. History of the Baughurst Society: Martin Slatford provided a brief history of the Baughurst Society, outlining its objectives and past achievements. It was acknowledged that the organization had been inactive for several years due to members relocating or passing away.
  3. Alignment of Goals:
    Attendees agreed that the Baughurst Society’s objectives closely aligned with those of Sustainable Baughurst and the Baughurst Repair Cafe.
  4. Collaboration and Structure:
    It was decided that the organizations would collaborate, with the Baughurst Society serving as an umbrella organization. Up to four meetings per year were proposed to facilitate this collaboration.
  5. Current Status:
    The Baughurst Society currently operates on a subscription-based model, maintaining a website and a bank account.
  6. Election of Officers:
  • Martin Slatford was elected as Chair.
  • Russell Clark was elected as Secretary
  • The team requested that Colin Hewitt be approached to continue as Treasurer for a period of 3 to 6 months to ensure a smooth transition. Colin Cooper also offered assistance during this period. Martin Slatford agreed to discuss with Colin Hewitt.

7. Next Meeting:

The scheduling of the next meeting was delegated to the Secretary, Russell Clark.
