Starting at The Green, Heath End Village Hall on Heath End Road.
1. Walk across Heath End Road, crossing into Wellington Crescent.
2. Walk along Wellington Crescent and turn right into Mornington Close and walk straight following the footpath into the Woodland straight ahead. This woodland walk is very beautiful and an ideal way to access the shops, avoiding the busy Heath End Road.
3. At the end of the footpath, the shops are on your right. There’s a cafe, takeaways and Tesco. This area is known as The Forge and was, in the past, the sight of the village forge.
4. Cross the carpark, pass the recycling bins and bear left and follow a footpath onto Portway.
5. At Portway, bear right past the garages. Then right again onto Woodlands Road.
6. Keep walking until you reach the T junction with the little reflective park on your left.
7. Turn left onto Heath End Road and follow the pavement until you reach the start of woodland and a footpath path to the left (next to Wyndwood number 49). This is Three Corner Plantation.
8. Follow the path through the woodland bearing left until you meet several major mounds. These are the Borson or Baughurst Barrows, consisting of nine bronze-age barrows.
9. Walk around the barrows and pick up the bridleway on the Hampshire/Berkshire border. The school field will be on your right.
10. At the back entrance to the school there is a small gate (with tennis courts beyond) and there is a triangle with cotoneasters on your left. Bear left onto Long Grove and continue to the end of the cul-de-sac.
11. Turn right along the main part of Long Grove. You will pass the Baughurst Community Orchard on your left, with the Long Grove Play area in the distance. Follow Long Grove until you reach the T junction with Woodlands Road. The bus stop is on your left and you can catch the number 2 to Tadley, Basingstoke and beyond. On your right is the Parish Notice board.
12. Turn right along Woodlands Road, crossing Portway and Pinewood Close, following the road until just past the bus stop opposite The Hurst Leisure Centre carpark. Bear left through the woodland, exiting on to Brimpton Road.
13. Bear left onto Brimpton Road, cross Hazel Green and join the grass footpath behind the trees on to Wellington Crescent. Follow the grass path until you reach Lakelands and finally Poplar Corner. This area has drifts of snowdrops followed by daffodils in late winter, early spring.
14. Cross the road directly into the Withey’s park area with a pond and a beautiful reflective garden.
15. With your back to the garden turn right onto Heath End Road and cross Bishopswood Lane. Finishing your walk at Heath End Village Green.
